We’re only twelve days into November, and our team at Endeavour Law has already worked with hundreds of clients through Will Aid - and the conversations have been fascinating.

If you haven’t come across it before, Will Aid is a national campaign that partners with solicitors across the UK to encourage people to make a Will while supporting eight major charities, including the British Red Cross, NSPCC, and Age UK. Instead of paying the usual solicitor’s fee, clients make a donation to Will Aid, meaning they protect their loved ones and contribute to life-changing causes at the same time.

It’s been one of our busiest and most rewarding months of the year - and it’s not over yet. There’s still time to take part and make your Will this November by visiting willaid.org.uk.

Here are the top five things we’ve been hearing from clients so far.

“I didn’t realise what happens if I die without a Will.”
Most people know that dying without a Will means the law decides who gets what. Fewer realise how rigid those intestacy rules are. Unmarried partners aren’t automatically entitled to anything, stepchildren aren’t recognised, and estranged relatives can still inherit. The shock has been real, especially for blended families and long-term partners who assumed “common-law marriage” was a thing. It’s not.

“I’ve never thought about my digital assets.”
From cryptocurrency wallets to social media accounts and online subscriptions, many clients hadn’t considered what happens to their digital lives when they die. Some were sitting on valuable crypto they’d forgotten about, others simply hadn’t realised how hard it might be for family to access key information. A Will can (and should) include guidance on digital legacies - something increasingly vital in 2025.

“I didn’t know I could choose who looks after my children.”
Parents are often stunned to learn that, without a Will, guardianship could fall to the courts. For many, that’s the lightbulb moment. Naming a guardian means ensuring your children are cared for by the people you trust most.

“We thought we were too young for this.”
This one never fails to appear. Plenty of under-40s assume Wills are for later in life. In reality, the right time to make a Will is now. Whether you own a home, have children, or simply want to make sure things are straightforward for loved ones, a Will gives peace of mind.

“We hadn’t talked about what we actually want.”
Writing a Will often sparks the first real conversation about death, inheritance, and what “fair” means. Couples have found themselves tackling questions they’ve avoided for years, and walking away feeling relieved that it’s finally sorted.

Will Aid reminds us that making a Will is an essential act of care. It protects the people you love, clarifies your wishes, and supports good causes at the same time.

If you haven’t made your Will yet, there’s still time to join this year’s campaign. Visit willaid.org.uk or contact Endeavour Law today to book your appointment.
